Ghana’s Contributions to Modern Surgery Are Outstanding Professor Morgan- Professor Naunton Morgan , winner of the 1963 Sim’s Traveling Common- wealth Professorship in Surgery, has praised Ghanaian doctors for their outstanding contributions in the field of modern medicine and surgery . Commenting on the first successful hole – in – the – heart operation at the Korle Bu Hospital, Ghana’s leading hospital. Professor Morgan, who is the Vice – President of the Royal College of Surgeons, London, said ” it is a proof that Ghanaian doctors are employing modern surgical methods and I am confident that they will continue to achieve more successes.”


Professor Morgan praised the efforts of the Government of Ghana in decentralising medical services by the establishment of health centres throughout the country to prevent overcrowding at the main hospitals. Talking about Ghana’s proposed medical school , Professor Morgan said: “It is most essential so that Ghana could produce her own doctors, trained in the surroundings in which they will work.” He expressed the hope that the British Medical Association, as always, will be ready to help set up the school when definite plans have been formed.
